WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?

Chiropractic medicine is a safe and non-invasive method of treating musculoskeletal and nervous system disorders and their effects on the body.

Most chiropractic procedures involve spinal and joint manipulations with great attention to proper body mechanics, anatomy & physiology. These manipulations align the musculoskeletal system, relax muscle tightness, alleviate pain and restore mobility, allowing the body to heal and function properly. Most patients report little to no discomfort during a manipulation, and often leave feeling more aligned inside their body.

WHAT IS SPORTS CHIROPRACTIC?

Because adjusting the spine enables the central nervous system to function optimally, chiropractic is an extremely effective therapeutic modality to help athletes keep their bodies prepared for peak performance and avoid injury. Chiropractic works out imbalances in the body due to high physical demands put on it by rigorous athletics, and helps athletes recover from injuries more quickly all while avoiding more invasive treatment solutions such as pain medications and surgery. Our chiropractic physician can help to properly align your body using spinal adjustments, release muscle tension using electro-stim, ultrasound and hot/cold therapy, and decompress your spine with flexion distraction and stretching exercises. In addition to being a lifelong athlete and accomplished lacrosse coach, Dr. Thornton has specialized training in strength & conditioning and treating sports injuries with chiropractic. He currently treats many adolescent and college level athletes as well recreational runners, golfers, dancers and weekend warriors.

IS CHIROPRACTIC CARE ONLY FOR ATHLETES?

Certainly not! Although chiropractic is a very commonly used practice among serious athletes, it’s not only athletes that benefit from chiropractic! Some of the most common conditions treated by chiropractors are back & neck pain, numbness & tingling, headaches and fibromyalgia. Your first chiropractic treatment will involve a comprehensive physical assessment by our chiropractic physician. You can expect that our chiropractor will ask you many questions about any symptoms you may be experiencing and your medical history. He will test your range of motion in critical body parts associated with your discomfort and help you to understand how chiropractic may or may not help you with your health goals. Our chiropractor will help you understand the course of care he feels will help you reach those health goals and may recommend other treatment modalities offered at our center and elsewhere that will speed you along your way to achieving short-term comfort and long-term optimal health and well-being.
